2013 Brubeck Festival Presents Joe Mazzaferro Septet
Trumpeter, educator, composer and arranger Joe Mazzaferro has been active in the Sacramento and Stockton jazz scenes since 2002. In 2006, he received his bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of the Pacific and in 2009 received his master’s degree in jazz and studio music from the University of Tennessee, where he served as a graduate teaching assistant. He also performed with the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra and studied improvisation and composition with Donald Brown, Mark Boling and Vance Thompson.
Mazzaferro teaches jazz and trumpet at the University of the Pacific, California State University, Sacramento, and the San Joaquin Delta College, and is the musical director and co-founder of the Sacramento Jazz Orchestra. He also teaches at the University of the Pacific and Cazadero Summer Music Camps.
He has also performed with jazz greats including Wycliffe Gordon, Jim Snidero, Jeff Clayton, Jimmy Heath, Kevin Mahogany, Lewis Nash, Ingrid Jensen, Deborah Brown, Patrick Langham, Simon Rowe, and the Capital Jazz Project.
