Jazz and Civil Rights -- Jazz musicians have often chosen to speak out about issues of race or equality as a way of drawing attention to problems in society. Our speakers will each share insights regarding specific artists that took a stand through their music or actions to address inequality.

Perceptions of Jazz -- Our speakers will engage in a dialog about jazz and civil rights considering how musicians and their music was and is perceived in the U.S. and overseas. Session will include questions and discussion with the audience.

Speakers include Grammy-winning author, educator, music journalist, and concert producer Ashley Kahn; Independent arts consultant/producer, writer and broadcaster Willard Jenkins; and Brubeck Scholar and University of the Pacific faculty member Keith Hatschek .
