Founded in 1994 by C. Brian Williams, Step Afrika! is the first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping. Under Williams’ leadership, stepping has evolved into one of America’s cultural exports, as the company has toured in more than 60 countries. Step Afrika!'s Celebration of African American History explores the richness and diversity of African American life through the eyes of one America's most renowned dance companies. A collection of digital content all filmed and created in 2020 will provide viewers with a unique way to mark Black History Month while deepening understanding of little known moments in African American story. Step Afrika!'s Celebration will include works from the Company's recent catalog including a moving excerpt of Step Afrika!'s critically acclaimed dance film, Stono. Step Afrika’s performance and Q & A discussion will be held via Zoom on February 28, 2021, 3:00 PM PST. Attendance is free. Pre-registration will be required.
