Virtual Event

Have you ever thought of turning your favorite folk songs, nursery rhymes, solo jazz pieces, pop tunes, art songs or any pre-existing melodies into a choral composition? Join composer and choral artist Dr. Yejee Choi for four workshops in choral arranging. The workshops are part of Conservatory's Summer Intermezzo Series. Dr. Choi is Assistant Professor of Choral Studies and Director of Pacific Choirs.

In the opening session, Dr. Choi will introduce the nuts and bolts of choral arranging, covering the following topics:

  • designing the structure
  • developing the melody
  • selecting the harmony
  • working on the parts
  • choosing the instruments for accompaniment
  • writing the instrumental parts for a choral piece

For the remaining three workshops, students will be experimenting creating and sharing their own choral arrangements.

Monday, July 13, 7 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.
Monday, July 20, 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.
