CIP BLOCK Conference
Friday, October 5 at 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
University of the Pacific, Various 3601 Pacific Ave
The mission of the BLOCK conference is to connect, inspire and support local youth (specifically targeting boys and young men of color) to engage and excel academically, promote responsibility and self-advocacy and improve communication and self-efficacy.
The conference includes empowering motivational guest/keynote speakers. Moreover, workshops will consist of foundation building, leadership-building activities and tools for success. Ultimately, encouraging educational engagement leads to college as a realistic option for each youth.
Founded in 1969, Pacific’s Community Involvement Program (CIP) has evolved from historic roots into a premier, comprehensive retention and scholarship program for first-generation and low-income Stockton residents from underrepresented backgrounds. In addition to mentoring and college workshops, CIP created the BLOCK (Building Leaders Overcoming Challenges with Knowledge) Conference to motivate and empower Stockton Unified youth, specifically young African American and Latino males.
