We welcome Pacific faculty, staff, and students from all three campuses to a pair of online workshops on equity in student learning featuring Dr. Viji Sathy and Dr. Kelly Hogan from the University of North Carolina. Professors Sathy and Hogan have received national recognition for their work using inclusive teaching practices and outcomes data from course-embedded assessments that have increased the achievement of underrepresented students and first-generation students in courses.
Interested participants may register to attend either workshop, or both:
9:00-10:30 – Inclusive Teaching Workshop. Teaching strategies that emphasize structured active learning can create more equitable classrooms and improve learning for all students. Participants will reflect on inequities and diversity in their classrooms and explore inclusive teaching techniques and case studies. This interactive workshop features approaches that can be implemented with any discipline or class size to help all students achieve to their potentials.
10:45-11:30 – Understanding Equity in Learning. Examining data disaggregated by student attributes is vital to understand how instructional practices are serving or failing to serve different student populations. Discuss how data disaggregation could be approached institutionally and by individual instructors, including an example developed by Professors Sathy and Hogan at UNC.
The workshops are funded by the University Committee for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Office of Strategy and Educational Effectiveness.
If you have questions about the workshops, please contact Nicholas McConnell, Director of Academic Assessment (firstname.lastname@example.org).
