Diversity on the Bookshelf Workshop: Building a Culturally Responsive Early Childhood Library

Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library, Chavez Central Library 605 N. El Dorado Street, Stockton, CA

In this free workshop with children's author Jennifer Torres, learn:

  • How to evaluate books for diversity and representation.
  • Why children need "windows" and "mirrors" when it comes to books.
  • How books can strengthen relationships with parents and caregivers.
  • How to develop storytimes and learning activities around multicultural children's literature.

Morning Session - 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Afternoon Session - 1 to 4 p.m.

Participants will receive books, outreach materials, and other resources to build a more diverse classroom or center library. Professional growth hours available.
