San Francisco Campus, Pacific Center
155 Fifth Street, San Francisco, CA 94103

FREE monthly Saturday Seminars inspired by our Master of Arts in Food Studies program on the San Francisco Campus are open to students, the Pacific community and the public.

"THE INDEX OF PUBLIC TASTES: READING SUPERMARKET SHELVES" with Tom Hertweck, University of Nevada, Reno
Supermarkets aren't just the most popular spaces in which consumers can gather food, they are also massive archives of eaters' desires and anxieties indexed on food packaging.  In this seminar, we consider moral, social and scientific symbolism of words, logos and other ephemera in grocery stores.  Attendees are encouraged to bring banal or intriguing food packaging for discussion.
