Orphaned in Poland at the age of 13, Tadeusz “Tad” Haska survived World War II, narrowly evading the Nazis. After the war, he escaped jail by the Soviet Secret Police, fled to Sweden and launched a plan to smuggle his wife in a coffin on a naval ship. Tad’s granddaughter, Stefanie, will discuss how knowing
nine languages helped him survive in the face of unspeakable adversity.
