The Folk Singers and the Bureau, Part II with Aaron Leonard, Writer and Historian

Tuesday, February 12 at 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm

Janet Leigh Theatre
3601 Pacific Ave, Stockton, CA 95211

The most prominent folk singers of the 20th century, Woody Guthrie, "sis" Cunningham, Pete Seeger, Lee Hays, and Burl Ives, were alos political activists with various associations with the American Commuinist Party. As a consequence, the FBI, along with other governmental and right-wing organizations, were monitoring them. Using music, video, news clippings and records from extensive Freedom of Information Act filings, including never-before-released material, this lecture will bring to life these artists and the systematic way they were subjected to government surveillance and suppression.
